Hopalong Cassidy's Creed for American Boys and Girls
Here are some important words from Hoppy to his kids, that reflect some of the principles for which he stood.
"Hoppy's Creed" * The highest badge of honor a person can wear is honesty. Be truthful at all times.
* Your parents are the best friends you have. Listen to them and obey their instructions.
* If you want to be respected, you must respect others. Show good manners in every way.
* Only through hard work and study can you succeed. Don't be lazy.
* Your good deeds always come to light. So don't boast or be a show-off.
* If you waste time or money today, you will regret it tomorrow. Practice thrift in all ways.
* Many animals are good and loyal companions. Be friendly and kind to them.
* A strong, healthy body is a precious gift. Be neat and clean.
* Our country's laws are made for your protection. Observe them carefully.
* Children in many foreign lands are less fortunate than you. Be glad and proud you are an American.
Hoppy
A Creed we should all live by, too bad we don't. The world would be a lot more peaceful, and a better place to live, if we did. |

What Life Magazine said about William "Hoppy" Boyd
Life Magazine in 1950 said, "Boyd made Hoppy a veritable Galahad of the range, a soft spoken paragon who did not smoke, drink or kiss girls, who tried to capture the rustlers instead of shooting them, and who always let the villain draw first if gunplay was inevitable." Boyd himself said, "I played down the violence, tried to make Hoppy an admirable character and I insisted on grammatical English."

The "Westerns Channel"
If you would like to watch some of these movies, you can see them on the "Western Channel". If, you don't have the "Westerns Channel", get it! They show great old westerns, with no commerials and of course "Hoppy's" on several times a week. When you do watch a "Hoppy" film, watch "Hoppy's" eyes and facial expressions, he can say more with his eyes and facial expressions, then a thousand words could. Maybe Mr. Boyd brought this style of acting from his silent movie days. One thing for sure, you can sure tell when he's upset with someone, by just looking at his eyes and without him saying a word. By the way, no, I don't get any reward for promoting the Western Channel. I just think it is a great way of getting to see good westerns on T.V.
